Ah, yes. I really enjoy this movie for the animation, the characters and their voice acting (especially from Eva Gabor, George C. Scott and of course, John Candy) and the score by the underrated Bruce Broughton. And speaking of underrated...this movie is criminally underrated and I know the one person who was responsible for this: Jeffrey Katzenberg.
You see, when the Disney studio decided to make a sequel to "The Rescuers" because of the first film being the one with the most money from its opening, the executives, especially Katzenberg, were much more concerned about this film while the animators were having fun with it. For one thing, when they re-released the first film and it "bombed", the executives thought that "Down Under" was a big mistake. And the second and worst thing...when Disney unwisely released the film at the same opening weekend as "Home Alone", Katzenberg, even more unwisely, pulled out all advertising on TV and other marketing campaigns at the time...making "Rescuers Down Under" a box-office failure and the start of Disney sequels becoming one of the weak link in Disney's reputation. (That is except for "Fantasia 2000" and others I can think of.)
I don't mean to be a drama queen but just for support, is there any big cult-fan base for this wildly and criminally underrated film to give back the glory and praise this film really needs?

I fully understand why people love this film heck the animation style is one of favourites from Disney, I love the shading on the characters and backgrounds. But at the same time I do have issues with this one when it comes to plot-holes and character development. I don't like how useless Bianca is in this movie and that Bernard is still a neurotic character since this is a sequel. I didn't feel like there were given enough adventure for the mice when they headed out to the wild. There was that flying squirrel sequence that lasted for only like 40 seconds then the snake attack that lasted for like 1 min and 15 seconds. They mentioned Dingo's and other wild animals throughout the movie and I feel bad to know that they skipped a lot of opportunities for more feral sequences. I didn't like the jump to next character that happened repeatedly. Some found entertainment in the villain and his lizard but I could not feel anything more than dislike for him and his pet. The plot-holes in this movie is what makes it the most hardest for me to like about this movie. Was it really necessary to bring out the female kangaroo and those cute little bears in the beginning for them to not appear again?

What happened to the imprisoned animals? Ever since I was little I always wondered why they never addressed what happened to these characters that we had got to know. That's pretty much the biggest issue I have with this movie. I got to really know these characters and rooted for them to get freed.

An underrated film. I'd say that the film's only major flaw is that the characters converge a bit too late into the story.

Super underrated, and often ignored for some odd reason. Unfortunately, Bernard and Bianca were treated more like side characters, not the heroes. The movie should be called "The Eagle Boy."
