This is one of maybe four movies in the Disney canon I haven’t yet seen. I really liked this analysis, enough that I’ll make a point to check it out.

In reply to pretto. A lot of character interaction is standard for fantasy films though. But you're right embellishment would be needed. I should say, that's what makes it perfect to me. Ordinarily, Disney is the master of embellishing stories as needed. (Bambi, Jungle Book, Tangled...)

I love the books too, but I don’t think they would make great movies…at least not without significant changes. Except for the last book, they aren’t very visual and there is little action. It’s all primarily character development, interaction, and puzzle-solving.
You could probably make a great stage play of the story.

I quite like Princess Eilonwy.

I have to say, with all of the Disney animated films they’re having remade into live-action, I feel that The Chronicles of Prydain would be an excellent candidate for another shot at the big screen. The story was there–it just warmth properly executed, and as mentioned in the article, a lot of it had to do with a corperate power struggle not unlike the one that brought an end the the Renaissance (guys, if you haven’t already, check out the documentary, ‘Waking Sleeping Beauty’).

That being said, I feel this series could prove to be a great franchise if given proper direction, detailing, and pixie dust.

Black Cauldron isn’t really a favorite of mine from when I was 5 in 1998. I liked it but I wasn’t used to seeing that dark amount of material!
