I see, thank you so much for your answer! :) In that case, this movie is truly a masterpiece, the characters became as iconic as Mickey Mouse and his gang.

These shorts were the film debut for Pooh. The shorts were based on books. :)

This and The Fox and the Hound are the only masterpieces of this era, harking back to past glories. It took the greatest children literature of all time and transformed it into the greatest film for small children of all time.

The books boast of enormous sophistication and subtlety. Subtle humor is so hard to do for children, but the books do it. Where so many books spell things out in the extreme, the Pooh stories have lines like, "Piglet felt that to be beneath a good dropper would be a mistake." They tell you what the characters feel and think in clever lines without a trace of condescension. Above all, each character is memorable and crafted with as much care and love as ever Van Gogh put into a painting.

The movies capture that pretty well but especially they capture the friendships. These are friendships as fascinating, strong and believable as those Sam Gamgee and Frodo, as Scarlett and Melanie, Ishmael and Queequeg. The addition of characters on of interacting with the narrator and interacting with the written text of the book was groundbreaking and is still amusing and keeps things fresh. The score is lovely, the animation style distinctive, the emotions profound. Most of all it is true to the wonderful characters, some of the finest all literature, not just children's, has to offer.

Lovely article, Mark! It made me chuckle that Pooh's gun would never make it today, that's so true. All the gags you could do with that pop gun and not one of the tv shows or sequels touched it with a forty nine and half foot poll. My word, pc pc. Oh the terrible wounds pop guns inflict.

Anyhoo, does anyone have any thoughts on any of the tv shows sequels?

I remember watching this as a kid and only the parts with Tigger and Pooh Bear sadly, but I re watched it a year ago on Netflix and I think its adorable in the best way!
And I just love the "Winnie the Pooh" song in the beginning, so calm and yet so joyful too! Ahhh makes me wanna listen to the song again!

Anyways, I loved the "The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh" as a kid and even though it can drag at sometimes, there are moments I still love like the moments with Gopher and Tigger and that trippy "Heffalumps and Woozles" number, the "Pink Elephants" offspring.

And by the way, I have a baby niece named Olivia with a certain Winnie the Pooh connection: I call myself Uncle Tigger because I'm the only uncle to her since my brother-in-law doesn't have any siblings. Coincidence?? ("The wonderful thing about Tiggers is that I'M THE ONLY ONE!")

Actually, Disney's Winnie the Pooh had his movie originally planned as a full animated musical around the early 1960's (a full story, episodic and charming in tone), but Walt decided to split the feature into featurettes because people in the U.S. at the time , especially children, weren't as familiar with the Winnie-the-Pooh stories than in the UK.
