In reply to Dan Siciliano. WHAT DO I LIKE: The character animation, the musical score and songs, and the art direction for the layouts and backgrouds. Since the artwork is no Eyvind Earle or Mary Blair, I still enjoy the heck out of it.

WHAT I DON’T LIKE: I didn’t like the ending, especially the “My Own Home” song (even though the girl looked very beautiful and we get the great “Bare Necessities reprise). I also don’t like the way how Mowgli talks and acts (I don’t blame the voice actor, Bruce Reitherman, I kinda blame the writers) like somewhat of a damsel more than a hero, compared to Short Round from “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom”. And finally, I’m not a big fan of those stock Disney sound-effects (with the exception of the occasional, dramatic cymbal crash and the best of its thunderclaps), especially when they are re-used multiple times in many Disney films, present and sometimes future.

Ok, along with “Sleeping Beauty” and “The Sword in the Stone”, I would put “Jungle Book” on my splits list because like most everyone else, I have some problems with it.

As a young boy the Kaa scene always made me feel very uncomfortable. I didn’t like how something was brain washing and wrapping around someone who had my haircut and skin tone.

I really love this movie for it’s characters and catching music. It’s always a treat to watch cause of how funny and vibrant the movie is. I really love the elephants and Shere Khan’s gotta be my all time favourite Disney baddie.

In reply to ChazM. Interesting take on it. I can see what you mean. I think what you say about projecting your own goodbye between Baloo and Mowgli is an interesting one. I've never thought about movies that way. Making them better by adding our own context and scenes. I just hate that hypnotize the man thing that you so often see in classic Disney films from Bambi onward. This is one of the worst examples IMO but I can see what you are saying too about it closing out Mowgli's journey to the man village and adult life
