Ehhh, it's all taste but the xeroxing isn't a big deal to me. It's crowd animation, there's so many puppies! Pretty much all crowd animation has some kind of system to minimize the budget otherwise the cost would be impractical. While it doesn't work for some of the films they used it in, Rotoscoping also works great for this film. Everything has a scratchy look that beautifully captures London and lends the dogs energy.

As a kid, I loved this movie sooo much! I'd watch it so often that every year (for a couple of years) I'd ask my grandpa for a new vhs on my birthday, since I'd literally watch it to the point where the tape would get ruined (because of so many rewinds). What I liked the most about this movie (beside the puppies) is the thriller I'd feel from that almost impossible escape (things like hiding so many puppies, or how slow they moved in the snow). I also love how Pongo and Perdy (not sure what her name is in English, I always watched it in my mother tongue, Portuguese) would literally do anything to rescue their kids. And, of course, Cruella is a great villain.

Great review! What I love about the movie is how much tension they create. There are so many times when Cruella almost catches those puppies. That's what the live action remake gets wrong. They go for Home Alone style antics in place of the true tension in scenes like the rolling in the soot scene. That is so tense! It also can be very funny like I love What's My Crime.

I can enjoy Dalmatians when I'm in the mood for it, but to argue that it's anywhere near as great of an artistic achievement as Sleeping Beauty is quite a stretch.

Ah, the animated antithesis of "Sleeping Beauty" at the time, meaning audiences wanting more warmth in characters and in color rather than cold backgrounds and underdeveloped leads. (With the exception of the fairies and Maleficent AND a beautiful film overall.)

What I loved about this movie was the character design, mostly for the miscellaneous human characters, including the human characters from my favorite scene in the movie, "What's My Crime". This sequence is a brilliant, yet stark contrast to the limited TV animation Hanna-Barbera was doing at the time. And another thing about what I loved about the character design is that other Disney films in the future, particularly "Sword in the Stone" and "Mary Poppins", borrowed heavily from this film.

Oh, and speaking of "Mary Poppins"...did you know that the final design for Anita was modeled after Julie Andrews? Which was coincidental, since the actress wouldn't become a household name until "Mary Poppins" a few years later.
