Amen, comrade!!

Bumble Boogie (and Peter and the Wolf from Make Mine Music) was originally produced as a new segment for the re-release of Fantasia. The original idea being that Fantasia would be updated every few years with new musical pieces in its repertoire. Fantastia was a box office disappointment, so that plan was dropped.
Ironically, the same thing happened with Fantasia 2000. For the next few years in the 2000s, more musical animated shorts were in production to be included in a follow-up that never came. Those shorts were all included in the Disney Shorts Collection that was released on DVD last year (along with Tangled Ever After, Paperman, etc.) I’m surprised they didn’t just go ahead and name the collection “Melody Time 2”.

I just checked it out a couple of days ago….LOL….it’s very interesting and kind of you to bring this up. Thank you.

BEST-“Bumble Boogie”: I never knew that a jazz version of “Flight of the Bumblebee” could be so wild and crazy with not only the music, but with the animation and backgrounds. I could listen to that piece anytime I want. AND I highly recommend that you check out Freddy Martin’s other musical hits based on the classics such as “Tonight We Love” from Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto and even a “Sabre Dance

WORST-“Trees”: It has always bugged me a lot, even when I first saw it as a kid. My true opinion…even though the art direction and animation is beautiful to look at, the music and the lyrics sung by Fred Waring and his Pennsylvanians is the DOWNSIDE to the segment. It’s kinda ear-wormy to me, either wrong key in the music or wrong casting choice. Another thing I hated about that segment was that, pardon my language, was a bland rip-off of “The Old Mill”. I mean, in the original cartoon, there was a violent storm that broke down the mill. But in “Trees”, there is a violent storm but the big tree doesn’t get destroyed. DULL.
