First off, allow me to apologize for Alan’s ghastly comments. Incoherent, nonsensical blubbering + homophobic overtones + strong hints of sexist attitudes = the perfect recipe for an immediate perma-ban!

Also The MLP Movie, and not sure if it’s 100% confirmed, has said to have a writer from Toy Story 2 and Mulan Co-Writing the Screenplay. Hopefully it’s actually true tho

I don’t know if a Christmas release date would be the best for the MLP movie (And this comes from someone who quite likes the new iteration). Since that pits it against Star Wars VIII.

Three things:

I know that Lionsgate didn’t make the movies, but there’s little quality control or effort in picking the best stuff to distribute. That’s what I mean when I say that there’s nobody at Lionsgate who understands animation.

Illumination Entertainment’s movies get polarized reviews from critics and they aren’t well liked in some circles of the animation community (this website included) for their approach to animated, which they see as valuing marketing gimmicks over any real effort in good storytelling or character development. Your mileage may vary, of course.

We’ll see how Lionsgate handles the MLP movie. All I know is, they have from now until next October to make a movie that people will want to see.

Lionsgate didn’t make any of these films, even though the column seems to act as though they did. They merely picked them up for distribution. People complain when smaller movies like Battle for Terra don’t get released, but then Lionsgate is in trouble for letting one of them find an audience? Terra, as it was originally called, was looking for a distributor for ages before Lionsgate eventually came to their rescue.

Is there some “scandal” involving Illumination that I’m not aware of? I don’t see how their success can be called “controversial” when their movies have all been financial hits and very well-received by audiences.

And My Little Pony will only be a hit if Lionsgate is more careful with the release. They are going to assume that since the TV series is successful than the movie will be, too, but they have to market it in such a way that it makes casual fans (adults) feel like it’s going to be cool to show up at the theater. And a Christmas day release would make a lot more sense than the October one.

Point taken, but someone needs to get these movies on blu ray! Lol. They’re all stunning movies that deserve more than just dvds.
