The trailer really made me stay away - it was too frenetic, and the characters didn't look they were going to go anywhere past cliche. Plus, I've never played the game, though some of my roommates have, and were excited about it.

Well, treating the source material with respect is a good start, and video game movies are at least doing this right (in comparison to, say, that live action Super Mario Bros. movie). But I'm reminded of Anthony Hopkins, and how he joined Thor because he saw at its heart a movie about a father and a son. He didn't care about the superhero part, he saw something more timeless. The best superhero movies have managed to get back to the basics of good storytelling, even when they're being silly or light-hearted. I didn't get the same sense from the Ratchet & Clank trailers, or even the Angry Birds trailer.

Do you have a source for 400M Angry Birds marketing numbers? It is just so much higher than a movie with a budget like this would usually have and I have not seen that number reported anywhere else. I honestly would appreciate it you could answer, maybe I should go through the other post about the film to see if answered there.

I really wanted this to succeed. I even went to go see it in theaters, to show some support. I have to admit, from the view point of a long term 'Ratchet and Clank' fan, the movie wasn't great. It was okay, and that was about it. I don't think that is enough to garner acclaim these days. There just wasn't enough depth to the characters and the humor, although splendid at points, did not appeal to all ages at all times. In my opinion it was of the quality of the later 'Ice Age' movies without the benefit of getting to know the characters as well. I do want a sequel but understand the significance of 10 million dollars. Like all things adaptations need just that, to be properly adapted to the medium they are being presented in. Best of wishes to Sony, Ratchet and Clank... bros for life.

There's a lot of talk about how to make a 3D micro budget film succeed. It's a good way for a smaller studio to find there ground and start producing films. But it seems it's still a big risk. 20 million is still a large budget though honestly when talking about a strategy like this. Films like Maya the Bee and the Blinky Bill Movie were created on 10-15 mil budgets and found financial success because their budget was so low.
I would love to read about what went on in the background whilst Ratchet and Clank was being produced. You can't win them all, but maybe they just made a few producing and distribution mistakes along the way??

1-4 million is childs play when it comes to marketing.. But you do think that maybe the game and movie marketing could have joined forces here.

Based on all the reviews I've seen (I watched yours on YouTube. Good thoughts!), Ratchet & Clank seems like a formulaic yet harmless B-movie. I wonder when it'll come out on DVD, since they've already removed it from my local theaters.
