I liked Flaversham as a plot device. But, the movie that caught my eye was The Time Machine. Like I said on a previous post:

-blood

-violence

-drinking

-smoking

-an Indiana Jones guy whipping stuff

-A HUMAN RUNNING ALIVE ON FIRE!!! (distant future human)

-decaying skeleton

-the destruction of earth

Oh, I LOVE the 1960 Time Machine! It was one of my favorite movies when I was a kid, for all the reasons Baymax mentioned 🙂 In fact, it’s still one of my favorite sci-fi movies. It is much, MUCH better than the 2002 film version 🙂 And I had such a crush on the leading lady! I still think she’s gorgeous 🙂

But yeah, the G rating was pretty wonky in the 1960s and early 1970s 🙂 Here are some other “family” movies that got the G rating: Planet Of The Apes, True Grit, 2001: A Space Odyssey, The Green Berets, and The Andromeda Strain. And Jaws only got a PG rating 🙂 (But, in fairness, the poster did say that the film “may be too intense for younger viewers.”)
