Except the common accepted definition of “Videogame Movie” is a movie based on an established videogame property, not your own personal definition.

I’ve probably should’ve worded it better since you misunderstood. What I really meant was that even though the Angry Birds movie doesn’t come out in theaters for another 2 weeks, I predict that it will do spectacular at the box office even though a lot of people have been saying that the movie should’ve come out a long time ago back when the franchise was really big. Plus, reason being is that Angry Birds is pretty much known by everybody of all ages whether people play the games or not and its a game that’s easily access on mobile along with a series of animated shorts that are currently airing on Netflix unlike Racket & Clank where it’s not well know by everyone outside the video gaming community let alone anyone that’s into video games. Even some video gamers didn’t even know that this movie existed. Heck, I wasn’t even aware of this movie until it was brought up the last couple of times on this website. Plus, it would’ve probably still have flop at the box office even if the animation company in charge of this movie took advantage of the advertising.

Financial success? The Angry Birds Movie dosen’t come out for another few weeks (May 20 in the US).

The term “video game movie” refers to a small genre of film that uses the art of video games to tell a story (i.e. Tron and Scott Pilgrim vs the World). So yes, Wreck It Ralph is a “video game movie”.

But Ratchet and Clank is not a video game movie. The movie itself has nothing to do with video games. Caling Ratchet and Clank a video game movie would be like calling The Lord of the Rings a “book movie”. It’s not; it’s a fantasy movie adapted from literature. Ratchet and Clank is a sci-fi adventure film that is an adaptation of a video game.

It’s all relative, but it’s just in the wording.

WIR is a movie that uses video games as the basis for its story, but it’s not based on any particular video game property. It doesn’t count, as much as people would want it to.

Oh well, they tried something and it looks like it didn’t work. At least not much of a loss to absorb especially when the game was such a big hit.
