I think dissecting what doesn't work could be interesting but I'm fine with their decision. I guess I'm in the minority that enjoyed this movie for what it is. Certainly no masterpiece but I liked it more than I thought I would.

I'm actually kind of glad the Podcast crew isn't doing an episode for Ratchet and Clank. If you're not a fan of the series then it's really, really mediocre. Wouldn't be surprised if they give it 2 stars or something.

Yeah all fair criticisms. I think the tv series isn't a bad idea. The movie should have probably been on netflix to begin with or maybe purchased in congruence with the game. But I appreciate they tried something different and for what it was I was entertained by it.

I enjoyed this movie to a point, but I do wish that we got to spend more time with the titular characters. They were more interesting and better acted than most of the other characters. James Arnold Taylor (Ratchet) and and David Kaye (Clank) have natural chemistry and the games are made all the better because that friendship seems genuine. Here it felt like an afterthought... That first city rescue scene was a lot more fun than some of the other set-pieces because they played off one another. Otherwise, it's a harmless movie. It'll appeal to kids, fans will like the subtle nods, and it'll probably warrant a Netflix watch by thousands of households. I say they should've done a tv series instead (netflix or amazon-style) and allowed the audience to see all the wacky worlds and insane weapons that populate the series... Just a thought.

In reply to <a href="https://www.rotoscopers.com/2016/04/30/review-ratchet-and-clank/#comment-26354">Jeremiah Bok</a>.

Amen to that! And the Nut Job was way less coherent as to story and setting. Plus it had much more unlikable characters. It's not a masterpiece by any stretch but just a decent space adventure. You make a good point about the Sonic and Ratchet comparisons. It's a bit lazy to compare those game properties to each other when as you say they really aren't similar just because they are both in games. I knew Ratchet and Clank wouldn't get great reviews but I admit I'm surprised by some of the vitriol. I thought it would be more a 30-40%. Oh well. You can't win them all and luckily the way they planned out this movie should make it a success or a minimal loss.

I've heard the game is great! That's awesome. I think the movie could have legs on DVD and streaming, which is probably where it should have landed to begin with but I admire their gumption in releasing it to theaters.

Yeah it's not the most original film but I guess that doesn't bother me as much as some critics. Glad to hear you enjoyed it. Will have to check out those cut scenes.
