Jon Favereu stated in an interview that he wanted to include a couple of the songs from the original movie out of nostalgia for the 1967 film which he loved as a kid. Personally I think it’s a good choice. The songs may seem out of place in the album, but all in all the soundtrack is an absolute gem. I haven’t stopped listening to it since I got it. I do wish, however that that amazing trailer music was available for download. That definitely belonged on the CD.

I thought the new take on the old orchestral score was really nice, I was impressed with that watching the film. But I thought all of the singing moments, while not awful, just seemed awkward or out of place for the tone of the movie. I haven’t heard Trust In Me yet.
But oh my gosh Rotoscopers, I tried recording a ‘voice mail review’ for your Jungle Book podcast, but my voice is like an awkward 8 year old and I had to edit out so much stuttering, I think I better just stick to writing comments! ^^’

In reply to wraithkelso. Interestingly enough, he's a gigantipithicus and not a simple orangutan because there are no orangutans in the jungles of India but there were giant ones in the past and Favreu wanted to be as accurate as possible. Or so I read.

I feel like Christopher Walken singing is actually a so bad it’s good kind of thing. I plan to buy just the songs on iTunes. I have not decided if I will see the movie though.

I won’t lie, I wish they had included the same version of Bare Necessities from the film. In the movie it is Bill Murray with Neel Sethi singing and it is great. On the soundtrack it is Bill Murray and Kermit Ruffins and not nearly as charming… Also, I’m sure I’m not the only one that heard the lines

“Oh, how magnificus it would be
A gigantipithicus like me”

and assumed that Richard Sherman had made up the species for King Louie but upon further research he didn’t make it up.
