I'm so glad and relieved that Zootopia is a success! I'm not typically a fan of anthromorphic animal movies and I was totally weary of this movie right from the moment it was announced. I didn't warm up to it and start getting excited until I saw the second trailer when Judy mentioned tokenism; that's when I knew that Zootopia was so much better than Disney's more recent anthromorphic animal films. The fact that it deals with more heavier topics, all in a single film, than Disney tends to dish out; especially that those heavy topics are addressed in a more blunt manner than usual. Disney usually only adds one or two serious topics to a film, and usually is more subtle about it, but Zootopia went all in and addressed so so much (and at such a crucial time)!

This has me eager and anxious for Moana. People are starting to make analogies to Disney's Renaissance and say that Moana will be the Revival's Pocahontas to Zootopia's Lion King. This is getting me slightly worried, though I feel I shouldn't have much reason to be worried quite yet.

However, Moana isn't a telling of something that really happened in history, like Pocahontas (which was it's main downfall, being totally historically inaccurate and downplaying the colonizers committing genocide against the Native Americans) was.

Things are looking good. Moana got rave reviews from it's preview at the latest D23 ~and~ Lin Manuel Miranda- creator and star of the latest hit Broadway musical Hamilton- is one of the composers for the music for it. Plus the concept art looks brilliant and fascinating, the animation is bound to be fantastic, and Ron Clements and John Musker, directors of Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, and The Princess and the Frog, are directing it. I have very high hopes.

Overall, I hope Disney's Revival lasts much longer than the Renaissance did and that we have plenty more fantastic films from Disney to look forward to.

How can you even say that if all we've seen is a brief three second silent moment with Moana looking out at sea? We don't even have a teaser trailer! Unless you're talking about dreading the typical Disney Princess formula, I'd hold back judgements.

I so hope Moana isn't the Pocahontas to Zootopia's Lion King. However, Moana isn't a telling of something that really happened in history, like Pocahontas (which was it's main downfall, being totally historically inaccurate and downplaying the colonizers committing genocide against the Native Americans).

Also, Zootopia isn't being designated as a B-list movie anymore. People, like myself formerly, were wary about it due to Disney's more recent anthromorphic animal movies, Home on the Range and Chicken Little *shudders*. Luckily, Zootopia is far superior to those films and people are recognizing that.

Things are looking good, though. Moana got rave reviews from it's preview at the latest D23 ~and~ Lin Manuel Miranda- creator and star of the latest hit Broadway musical Hamilton- is one of the composers for the music for it, so I'm very optimistic. To be honest though, Moana looks pretty boring. There's nothing about it that stands out to me. It's the same tired Disney formula. Which I'm glad Zootopia stepped out of.

Its going to be hilarious if Moana isn't as good as Zootopia.
I mean, everyone keeps on putting Zootopia as the B-list movie, the movie that's an appetizer before the big meal, the good movie that won't be remembered once Moana comes out.
But then it turns into this mammoth of critical and financial acclaims rivaling Inside Out even. If Moana isn't as good, it would be both hilarious and sad.
But honest to god Disney please make Moana as good and make as much money because we need more non-white princesses onscreen!
