I just watched Zootopia on Blu Ray from Netflix. It’s not a great Disney flick but it sure had some surprising depth. Resonant themes surrounded by cheesy yet genuine humor and colorful animation. The world around the city is full of endless possibilities!

In reply to Marielle. Yes, exactly. Also keep in mind, the moment we meet Hiro, he is the focus on every scene. We are seeing the world through his eyes. Its very much told as his story. Now with this show and if they wanted to do a sequel, then its time to expand the freinds story. The Story of Hiro is the Birth of the Big Hero 6.

In reply to Ian Miller. I loved Hiro. He's a boy genius with actual flaws and his journey is an excellent representation of grief. The other characters aren't too memorable in my mind. But to be fair, they weren't Hiro's friends, they were his brother's friends, and they only become his friends at the end of the movie. It's the perfect example of a situation where a sequel could develop the other characters.

I went to go see the film with my sisters last Friday and man oh man, was it a good film. I would agree with Chelsea’s points that it isn’t supposed to be “The Best Disney Movie ever”, but the film did manage to bring a lot of heart with the two characters in the film (Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde), along with the film not being afraid on utilizing themes of “Predator and Prey” that are very reminiscent to our own human society.

But all in all this was Disney’s crowning achievement, I’m very surprised it maintained a 98% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

I’m not quite as down on Big Hero 6, though I do think that the side characters were much more interesting than Hiro, the main character, which definitely leaves a bit of dissatistfaction when I watch that film (I am even more down on Frozen, though :). I did really like Zootopia, though – I think the choice to make Judy the main character really lent it the strength of movies like Tangled – a really appealing look at a complicated world and subject (Zootopia dealing with prejudice, and Tangled with unhealthy parenting relationships). It also has a lot of the DNA of Wreck-It Ralph, with the paired cynical and idealistic heros.
