I loved the animation in this short. It's crazy when you think this is all hand drawn. It kind of blows your mind! I was ok with all the content until the last act of violence shown. I couldn't really handle that and felt it was a bit too much. All in all though, a very unique short and some of the best animation I've seen in a long time!

When it started, I really thought this film was going to be my favorite of the five, but by the end it was my least favorite. I hate that I have to say that, because it really is an animation masterpiece, and the fact that the entire thing is hand drawn is just mind boggling to me. Of all the films up for the Oscar, this one is the most impressive to me, based solely that fact.

However, I can't judge a film based solely on how amazing the animation is, I have to also factor in how much I enjoyed it, and how much replayability it had; and I only enjoyed about 50-60% of it. I don't mind some violence and if they hadn't gone as far as they did I'd have been fine, but by the end it had gotten so bloody that there was no way for me to enjoy it any more, and I have no desire to rewatch it.

I enjoyed learning about the film's backstory, and the fact that he wants this to be an entire film is a very intriguing premise. I hope he is able to finish it, and if he does I will most certainly go to see it, but that really doesn't help me enjoy this short that much more.

Part of the problem is the fact that the film is so short, and there is zero context given for anything that's happening. It just seems to be blood and violence for blood and violence's sake. If this was just one scene in a much longer movie that had so much more going for it than just violence, I think I would be able to more readily look past it, but when that's almost all it is, I just can't enjoy it.

Despite my feelings toward it as a whole, Prologue is still a great film, an animation marvel, and for a good chunk of it, very beautiful to watch. If you have no problems with blood and violence, then I would totally recommend it.

The animation is striking but for me the story wasn't strong enough to justify the gore and nudity. It just didn't do it for me.
