To me, this was the most forgettable of the five shorts. It was good in places, but there was nothing that really stuck with me. Well, I shouldn't say that. The gag with the giraffe getting knocked out stuck with me. I laughed, even though I shouldn't have. Giraffes are my favorite animal; I should have been upset, but it was kind of funny.

The other thing that stuck out to me was the way that they wanted to make you believe you were watching the wind-up mechanical characters moving inside the box, but they kept switching to all these dynamic camera angles, and showing things that it would not have been possible to see were you actually looking through the hole in the box. It kept taking me out of the story, every time the camera angle would change. I think if they'd been a little more deliberate in having everything look like it was realistically happening inside that box, I would have been a lot more impressed.

Maybe I'm being too nit-picky, but I just couldn't get fully invested in the story. It had potential, I just felt like it couldn't fully live up to what it wanted to do.

I didn't know that about the creator's family. That's very interesting. I liked the steampunk feel to the short and the diorama sequences with the circus and all the layers of movement were strong. I enjoyed it even if I wasn't blown away by it. A solid short.
