I feel the same way Rachel which makes me believe what Lee Unkrich said when he accepted his Oscar five years ago for Toy Story 3. He said that Pixar is the most awesome place on the planet to make movies!

I agree Monsters University totally underrated. It’s narrative of the hard worker not very the dream in the end is actually quite subversive

Oh yeah, I’m all for more original films. I just feel as though these new directors need a more observant eye from Pixar’s Brain Trust. The only newcomer that was able to fit into the family was Brad Bird but he had a good resume following The Iron Giant. Hopefully, Peter Sohn continues directing. Despite me not being a fan of The Good Dinosaur, it wasn’t Sohn’s concept and he still did the best he could with what he had. I want to see an original movie from him: he’s talented.

That I did and made a mark on par with the original in the process.

In my opinion, MU is a criminally underrated Pixar film. Sure, it may be formulaic and a bit silly at points. But it at least does what it set out to do: by being an entertaining precursor to the original film.

I share you exact sentiment. I was hoping for more work from the veteran, “can’t-go-wrong” directors that made masterpieces one after another, not newcomers with lackluster films, if any, on their resumes. I’m not complaining though. More original films on the line from Pixar is still music to my ears.
