It would have been great to credit the lyricists and composers behind these songs. These two in particular are classic Menken power-ballads. One by the the incomparable Howard Ashman and the other the witty poetic Stephen Schwartz.

I wonder if you or Chelsea might do an “Underrated New/Cut/Re-purposed” blog someday? 🙂

Holy crap…these songs are awesome! “Out There” was always one of my favorite songs from The Hunchback of Notre Dame and has never been underrated in my book. I remember the summer that movie came out, I bought the soundtrack and listened to it everyday. I could never get through “Out There” without getting goosebumps and being completely moved. Fantastic song!

I feel the same way about “So Close” from Enchanted. I can’t tell you how many days that song stayed on repeat in my car, but it was quite a few. This is another song that completely moved me – goosebumps and all!

These are the songs that make great movies even better. They seem to drive the emotion of the movie and help you to feel for the characters even deeper. It would be weird to think of some of these movies without those songs in them.

Oh yes. “Out There” is one of my faves to belt out. A Goofy Movie’s soundtrack was clutch. This list is almost spot on. I feel like “Why Should I Worry” from Oliver & Co. could have made this list… I mean, it’s Billy Joel, people! Then there’s “The Journey” from The Rescuers that always made me tear up. So many good ones! I could go on, but I’ll spare you…

“Streets Of Gold” was my favorite song from “Oliver and Company”, because Ruth Pointer killed the 80’s workout music.

It’s not remembered that much because it never got past the first chorus in the film. I’m not sure why it was trimmed down, since it was clearly meant to be a bonding song for Oliver and the gang, like “Good Company” was for Oliver and Jenny, and a bit more development in that area would have helped the film’s pacing problems.

Personally, I would mention “Streets Of Gold!” from Oliver and Company over “I Won’t Say I’m In Love” only because the former is unheard of and the latter is popular.

To go along with The Great Mouse Detective, I’ve always loved “Let me be Good To You.” And I love every song on this list.
