Maybe at least the animation will still reach for the heights he worked for.

They created a 99% faithful Peanuts film without having to modernize a thing, and audiences (myself included) loved it. Both Peanuts and Popeye (especially Popeye) are tokens of their era. Attempting to modernize them wouldn’t do justice to the source material. I know Tartakovsky wanted to make that kind of movie, but Sony’s vision of a modern Popeye got in his way. It’s such a shame.
