If you can handle the stark realism of homeless life and desperation, overall it has a surprisingly optimistic tone, it’s a very heartwarming and funny story. I rewatched it the other day after seeing it here.

But the themes of family, loss, and reuniting with loves ones resonate with audiences. It’s a different method of storytelling if you’re used to Western animation (I was a bit confused about leaving new diapers and milk at graves) but the core of the story is easy to communicate. And the concept of a child’s innocence, a brand new life born, that brightens the lives of three people who have struggled through dark times, is the essense of the Christmas spirit.

Tokyo Godfathers is one of the funniest anime’s I’ve seen too it has a few laugh out loud moments.
