I've always felt that the package films were a necessary evil more than anything else. If I was just going off my personal taste Three Caballeros would be way low but I wanted to include a live action/animation merging and so it was one of the earliest films to use it extensively. At the time it was quite groundbreaking.

Cool perspective. The reason I included Three Caballeros was because of the strides it made in live action/animation merging. It didnt really have to do with the content of the film. Same with Nausicaa. It was more for the people it brought together for the first time than the content of the film.

Great suggestion with Gertie.

Disagree on The Three Caballeros or any of Disney's WW2 package films. They represent a studio acquiescing to non-artistic agendas, resulting in a slump from which the studio would never fully recover until a decade later with Cinderella. I'd put Fantasia (the great-grandfather of music videos) or Cinderella (the film that saved Disney post-WW2) here instead.

Love the Miyazaki inclusion, even though Nausicaa is admittedly less polished and refined compared to, say, his next film Laputa: Castle In The Sky, or not as iconic as My Neighbor Totoro, or as grand as Princess Mononoke or Spirited Away.

Everything else is cool, except...no love for Gertie The Dinosaur and Winsor McKay? (You'd think Gertie would be remembered at this time, when a film about dinosaurs is just being released in theaters.)

The great-grandfather of music videos? Surely it could've had a spot! (Though I do get its exclusion...it's important to a different medium.)

I wouldn't consider "The Prince of Egypt" to be a landmark in animated history but the scene of the splitting of the Red Sea, accompanied by the musical score, is one of those jaw-dropping moments that I consider to be a great achievement in animation.
