Still don’t know how I feel about it. It gives me more hope knowing they’re not remaking it, but considering Disney hasn’t been the greatest in the past with live-action films based on existing properties (*aggressively side-eyes Maleficent*), I have mixed feelings about this. Maybe once they announce casting or so, then I’ll be able to form an opinion.

Marry Poppins is one of my favorite Disney movies ever so I’m cautious that Marshall and the Hairspray songwriters will serve us well.

Just leave the movie alone. It’s going to bomb anyway. Rob Marshall makes heavy handed musicals.

For those who think that this should still be thought of as a reboot, I’m looking at this in the same way they approach a new James Bond film. All of the James Bond films are part of the same universe, they just change actors as needed. Yes, it’s a little strange, but if everyone can be okay with it in James Bond, I see no reason to be against it here. It’s pretty much exactly the same thing.

In reply to brandon. People have the right to consider it a separate film that is no way affiliated to the timeless classic. Why can't they just enjoy it for what it is? A new movie based on the Mary Poppins books.

In reply to Dean. In all honesty, that's the flimsiest definition of a reboot I've ever seen. The 20-year jump would necessitate new child actors/characters, but it's still anchored by Mary Poppins and they are planning to integrate material from the other books. Does it sound too loose to be a sequel? Sure, but it's in no way a reboot unless Disney decides to recast the roles of Jane and Michael as children.

The problem here is that they will have to modernize the music. And with no returning actors, this should be referred to as a reboot, not a sequel.

If Saving Mr. Banks was handled with charm and grace then I will be carefully optimistic for this sequel too, I stress the word carefully as Disney is treading on hot water here!
