I am so happy its doing well! And yeah Adam Sandler should kinda put his buddy vacay movies away I mean its really getting repetitive now
Hopefully Adam is learning his lesson with Hotel Transylvania and Sony Animation…..I doubt it but hey I try to be positive

In reply to Iftekhar Ahmed. Do people even know or care that Sandler is in an animated feature, though? I'm sure that casting known actors/comedians/celebrities occasionally has an impact, but usually it seems to make no noticeable difference, one way or the other.

While I fully agree that this is a strong opening and is definitely welcome news for Sony Animation, I tend to doubt that word of mouth generally has much of anything to do with opening weekends. Most people already have plans for their weekends, and probably wouldn’t hear about and decide to go see a movie within the same weekend, and at least from my observations over the years (expressly being a box office observer) it can often take a couple of weeks or even longer for word of mouth to really kick in (although a single week is not uncommon).

In addition, CinemaScores, even more than other metrics, must be taken with a grain of salt–actually, more like a block of salt or a salt lick. 😉 Scores tend to be on the high side unless a movie is profoundly disappointing, and mostly reflect how the movie meets the expectations of those who were primed to see the movie in the first place, as opposed to what the resulting word of mouth will actually be like. Animated features in particular tend to score on the high side, as most people came for a cartoon and got a cartoon, and that’s pretty much it (as pathetic as this is). The real word of mouth can sometimes make a huge difference later, but my point is that the CinemaScore isn’t a good indicator–one “A” score is not necessarily the same as another “A” score in terms of potential impact on the box office.
