Well, for 2013 (the 2014 Academy Awards, as they count it), Monsters University wasn't even nominated by the AMPAS (or for a Golden Globe), even though there was a full field of five that year and, at least in my opinion, aside from Frozen it was a weak field among the American animated features. The Wind Rises and Ernest & Celestine received nominations, as animation fans had hoped, but so did The Croods and Despicable Me 2 over Monsters University, which was quite the shock for most. Pixar not even receiving a nomination would seem to tell us something, I think--that at the very least they're not automatically guaranteed anything (even a nomination in a weak field), whether or not the AMPAS had collectively shown favoritism toward them in the past.

Not that anything had a realistic chance against Frozen that year, as aside from the sheer force of the phenomenon, according to the feedback/comment cards I've read most AMPAS voters really thought it was a great animated feature and were blown away (no backlash effect against the phenomenon to note, in contrast to animation fans). But 2014 (2015 Academy Awards) had a stronger field overall, so whether Pixar would have received even a nomination would definitely have depended on the specific movie.

Having said all that, I think I see what you're getting at in regard to Pixar. They have this kind of mystique that even Disney and Walt Disney himself never had--a few stumbles aside, there is a general propensity for people to have unusual goodwill toward them and their movies, even to the point of completely overlooking their faults and weaknesses (unless a whole movie is perceived as weak, anyway), of which there are plenty (well, no one's perfect). It's nothing we haven't seen many times with the most cultish fanatics of Disney or anything else, but with Pixar it's so widespread and does not even require people to be mega-fans or followers. I don't resent Pixar for this, as they're just trying to make the best animated features they can, which is always commendable, but I think this phenomenon is quite remarkable, so I'm remarking on it. ;)

If a Pixar movie was to come out at around that time that i would guarantee you that it would have been in the nominations category. The only reason as to why Frozen beated Monsters University was because of the fact that it was a cultural phenomenon and it was a return to the musical format of Disney Princess movies. I wouldn't be surprised if Finding Dory was to be in the 2016 animation nominations with Moana.

That's true to a noticeable degree regarding Cars 2 and Monsters University, albeit the former was at least nominated for a Golden Globe and an Annie for Best Animated Feature, and the latter, though snubbed by both the AMPAS (Academy Awards) and Golden Globes, was nominated for a Critics' Choice, a BAFTA, and an Annie for Best Animated Feature, so they did have some major nominations, at least.

But still, with the AMPAS in particular (the big award for whatever reasons), there is no guarantee, so you have a point. If they ever had a bias toward Pixar, it certainly has been shaken up in recent years. Some would argue that they favor WDAS now, especially given last year when few out here gave Big Hero 6 a realistic chance to win, but then it did. I couldn't say whether this was a result of bias on their part myself, however, because I happen to think that Big Hero 6 deserved to win, but others will make their own interpretations.
