Because this film has more of a quirky off-the-beaten-track feeling as opposed to more mainstream animated films with lots of merchandise and promotions, I suspect it will continue to have a cult following in years to come. I’d recommend it for ages 8 and up but some will enjoy it more than others.

That said, I’ve read this book to children and they have enjoyed it immensely for the wickedly funny characters and their sneaky schemes that Dahl created. It’s refreshing to Dahl’s stories animated through Anderson’s direction because I’ve seen films try to capture the “dark” side of Dahl (e.g. Tim Burton) but this one with the autumn colors and the comic timing goes more for wit. “Matilda” also had a British-speaking villain but Matilda and her parents were definitely American middle-class characters. Danny Devito as the loudmouthed car salesman worked just fine as well.

Mason, on a previous podcast did you say you would be interested in recording a fanfic that someone wrote based on an animated movie? Or was that directed for Disney fics?

Well, I honestly can’t remember the movie all that much. I only saw it that one time. I just remember not liking it, but I can’t remember why I didn’t like it. So that’s why I said that I feel I need to see this movie again to refresh my memory of the movie and hopefully my opinion of it.

That would be my D’oh!
