It’s alright, I’m sure the new show will be spectacular, it is Disney after all 🙂

I have my bally doubts about that

Haha, same! 🙂 This film has a special place in my heart.

It wasn’t for a lack of trying, but rather a lack of succeeding. The shows that were intended to replace Aladdin didn’t measure up, and with Aladdin continuing to draw capacity crowds year after year, there was little sense in taking a risk of disappointing guests (like, say, how Light Magic so disappointed guests when it replaced the Main Street Electrical Parade). None of this surprises me because Aladdin and what they did with it here is ideally suited for this type of attraction (mini-Broadway show in a theme park), having exotic, magical, and some dark, dramatic elements.

WDI had tried to make a Toy Story show, for example, that would be a worthy replacement, but as good, strong, and beloved as that franchise is in some ways, it doesn’t have the elements that have made the current show so successful. While doing something different could theoretically be just as good, too, obviously it was a tall order to come up with something equally as spectacular, and in their own estimation they weren’t getting it done.

Frozen is probably the franchise that gives WDI the best chance to find a worthy replacement. With the exception of a major villain character (doesn’t need one), it has the right elements, including existing well-liked songs, of course, and its tone ranges all the way from cute to dark with some violence as well (let’s face it, violence can be spectacular! :D), giving the show’s creators a lot to work with. Hopefully all of the pieces will fall into place this time around, as I’m really looking forward to seeing the show.

That’s pretty much what I’m imagining/ hoping for as well. And I agree that the outtakes are outtakes for a reason. The only one I like is “Life’s To Short” (Which I LOVE). But like you said, it doesn’t really fit the plot and characters anymore. This is the situation with most of my favorite outtakes (“Life’s To Short”, “Proud of Your Boy”, “Keep ’em Guessin”). Although I love, I realize thatbthebfiom was better off without them.

It can be worked when/ if it’s brought to the stage, though. A Broadway version of “Life’s To Short” with a few changed lyrics plopped right in act two where we need songs? It would be amazing. As the reprise, that works as it is. In fact, I’ve always wished they had put it in there. Just because the original song is in there doesn’t mean you have the reprise!

To tell you the truth, the deleted songs were deleted for a good reason–this was not like “If I Never Knew You” in Pocahontas, which was deleted because somebody saw a child get fidgety during a test screening. The deleted songs in Frozen just plain don’t fit the characters anymore–at all. Obviously there may be some reinterpretation, but in my opinion it would be too much. If anything, they may do what was done for the Aladdin show, which was to add a new song to help promote the show.

Personally, I’m not that fond of the changes that were made to the Aladdin story for the show (the movie is much better), and although it has been fun and Genie is a riot, it’s time for something new. This show was going to be replaced by a couple of other shows that fell through, including one based on Toy Story, so it’s had its time. That said, I sure wouldn’t mind if it stayed for a while longer while the Frozen show is placed in Disneyland where it (and Aladdin, for that matter, but oh well) really belongs. Walt Disney Imagineering don’t seem to care about what belongs where anymore, so I guess that would never happen. Someone needs to educate them about the meaning of theme.

As for the quality of the current Frozen show in DCA, it looks like they were forced by management to slap something together real quick and cheap, but I’m sure they’ll put a lot more effort and care into the stage musical, so it could be good.
