It'll probably be some time before Super has anything worthwhile to show.

It's so bizarre how they're just retelling these new movies instead of building off of them with a continuation right off the bat. After this Battle of Gods retread they're doing now, they'll probably have an original story arc(most likely to do with that fat Beerus and female Whis advertised for the show) play out before they get up to doing Resurrection 'F' again to give everyone a breather.

Still, it's a bit awkward to already know that it's going to happen while the film is still fresh in our minds.

I may have spoken too soon about them trying harder to keep things consistently on model these days, though. Apparently, the latest episode of the new DB Super series looks hilariously awkward, as if the budget for the show took a huge nosedive.

I think the main issue with a lot of Dragon Ball's modern animation(or to be more accurate, the art quality and drawings themselves) is the lack of a sense of form and dimensionality compared to the classic series and older movies.

The art has definitely gotten a bit more simplified and flatter compared to the days of yore, and the shading and highlights can often look like they're all over the place and don't really help to suggest bulk either. That lack of solidity is probably what makes the current art direction look more jarring that the previous varying art styles that came before it.

The fanbase has often wondered if it was the use of digital drawing and coloring that was the culprit, but there are certain points during these two recent movies where both the art and animation quality suddenly skyrocket and look very solid and organic compared to other sloppier scenes, and it very much reflects the look of the older days despite being made digitally. It stands to reason that it's less to do any computer work, and more to do with the less experienced artists still getting the hang of things. Usually, those really well drawn and animated scenes were done by series veterans, I think.

On the plus side of things, at least characters are more consistently on model these days. The old series suffered by differentiating studios and animators of varying levels of skill, so you'd get some really cheap and awkward looking scenes/episodes at times. Even a few of the movies suffered a bit from that. These days, it isn't as noticeable.

I just saw the movie, if you're a DBZ fan this will be a hoot. I loved Frieza's return, and how the facilitated the stakes being higher. Not that this is even a spoiler, but the only thing I didn't care for was a slight narrative aspect that had me perturbed, if they are on earth the entire gang would have surely helped out in the brawl, but that is a small thing. The ushering in of our mighty heroes into the present day quality of animation is something to see, it excites me for the future of the series and the upcoming release of more DBZ projects.
