Sure, if I squint hard enough and age up Heather by 10 years in my head, than sure. Otherwise, I don’t see the resemblance (asides from them sharing the same eye color).

Exactly the kind of reaction that a Heather-centered episode was going to get from some fans either way. I disagree (respectfully).

Everyone likes to throw around the words ‘Mary Sue’ and ‘Special Snowflake’ when it comes to Heather. So then, does Heather’s incorrect assumption that she could take on Dagur’s entire army on her lonesome count as ‘Mary Sue’ behavior? If it doesn’t, then her getting overpowered by Dagur’s men at the end of Part One (only to be rescued by Hiccup) should certainly negate her ‘Special Snowflake’ status as well. Sure, she did a complete 180 in the years since Riders of Berk to become a skilled dragon rider and a fighter, but Dagur had strength in numbers and dragon-proof weapons and mechanisms on his side.

If she was really the Mary Sue-type figure that some people deem her as, than she wouldn’t appear to have a problem with social interaction (in Part 2, she’s blindsided by the sudden rush of attention from Snotlout, Fishlegs, and the twins). Nor would she have a near-reflexive tendency to distrust others, simply due to the fact that she’s so used to being betrayed to herself.

One final thing I will say is that Heather’s upgrade to ‘awesome’ didn’t come as a result of the writers waking up one day and realizing that Heather isn’t ‘special’ enough. In Race to the Edge, her foster family is dead and outside of Trader Johann and Windshear, Heather had nobody else to fall back on for emotional support and/or positive social interaction. Thus, we have a lonelier, angrier, more unstable individual who’s solitary existence has molded her into an entire different person. One who shares more in common with the only living member of her real family (Dagur).

Sorry for the lengthy response, but at least you know where I stand on this character (and you don’t really have to agree with me).

I dislike her even more now and I’m definitly not alone. Everyone is calling her a Mary Sue even her dragon is a Mary Sue.

Exactly. I wanted a lot of Hicstrid momentos this seasons. Sadly, not. Disappointed.

I loved seeing the normal, teenage girl side of Astrid. It makes you realize- with Ruffnut technically being the only other girl around, there’s really no other girls for her to hang out with. I’m glad that the show creators saw this and took the opportunity to form a friendship between her and Heather. And her reaction to Heather’s comment about Hiccup was adorable. Come on Astrid, admit it: you like the unassuming, heroic, dragon- rider type.
