Nope. In this universe, the dinos have not been wiped out, so they’ve evolved further, and do speak. So the talking you hear in the trailer IS Arlo, (the appatosaur). Humans, however are still early in heir evolution and are not quite talking yet. Therefore Spot (the child – could be boy or girl) doesn’t speak, but acts and communicates more like a loyal pet.

I think it’ll be like Ratatouille where they talk but Arlo can understand spot, not vice versa, but Arlo talks to other Dinos

Yes it has been done before but it’s how this film does it that seperates it from the others. One of the way it’s doin that is that the roles are reversed. Also the reason why they want the film to rely more on actions and visuals has nothing to do with the fact the voices has been recast. The reason is because Sohn got the inspiration from his childhood as it states in this part of an article “Second, in terms of emotion, Sohn may have cracked the project. Growing up with a mother who didn’t speak English, Sohn recalls a childhood screening of Disney’s classic “Dumbo,” in which the scene between the baby elephant and his mother (who extends her trunk to embrace little Dumbo from behind bars) made Sohn’s own mother cry. Normally, Sohn would have to translate the movie, but with “”Dumbo,” he said, “I remember my mom slowly but surely feeling this moment. It really got her. It hit me so hard. I didn’t have to explain anything to her. She saw it, and it was told visually so well. It really inspired me.”

Both trailers aren’t great tbh, though this is much worse when comparing the two IMO.
I also wouldn’t call this a glimpse because the idea of a human and his ____ companion has been done plenty of time. (HTTYD for example). The concept has to be more original to not need more details in the trailer. Also, I think a good point is that there is no dialogue in this trailer because of the recasting of voice actors, so that’s a development issue, and the trailer probably wasn’t supposed to be this way. The analysis of the role of nature is interesting, but again I would never have guessed that without some research. Anyway my point isn’t that the film looks bad, just this trailer. I was simply hoping for something a little (ok A LOT) more exciting. I’ll just wait for the next one.

The reason for the dinosaurs being cartoony is because in this film nature is the main antagonist. Because of this the environments have to look and be more realistic and sometimes threatening than the dinosaurs themselves. It basically was the idea from the start to have cartoony dinosaurs. I think they look great. It’s new and unique for Pixar and it gives them the opportunity to try something new. It also makes this film stand out from previous dinosaur films that make both the dinosaurs and environments realistic. I’m pretty sure once people see the film in it’s entirety the designs won’t really matter.

This technically is the glimpse. The main focus in this trailer is the realtionship between Arlo (the dinosaur) and Spot (the boy). It’s not giving you too much of the story or spoiling anything, but is showing you the tone they are going for. Also, the Inside Out teaser trailer didn’t really tell that much other than that the concept was that there are emotions inside our head. Most of the teaser was basically clips from previous Pixar films and the actual footage from the film was only like 15 seconds. Other than knowing the concept we didn’t really know what the films main plot was unless we read the description of the plot. Something you didn’t do for this trailer. Sometimes it doesn’t hurt to read the description. And the “gummy” dinosaur designs are what they were going for in this film since nature is the main antagonist. Because of this the environments have to look more realistic and sometimes threatening than the dinosaurs themselves. Pete Sohn the director of the film said himself. I personally think this style looks great. It’s new and unique for Pixar and it gives them the opportunity to try something new. It also makes this film stand out from previous dinosaur films that make both the dinosaursand environment realistic. Now, if you want a trailer that gives more story your going to have to wait. It will probably come close to the films release.
