I love Iz , Hawaii, and the beautiful voices and ukulele (albeit how many people thought this was schmaltzy and lame,something in me left the cinema loving the short more than the movie ( albeit fantastic with a lot of adult serious themes).. Sometimes we need to have a weep and be able to appreciate "singing volcanos "and unrequited love to relive the inner child in us amongst all the other awful despair we have in our world today . The animation alone was amazing and I think people need to capture more of their inner child and appreciate Pixar for the genius they are., I predict Lava song will be a YouTube hit as we all just want a fairytale, love and happy ever after in the end ...

A lot of people seem to be hating on this one, I personally enjoyed, any short that gets me invested to a point where I feel bad that the lead has been screwed over royally is a good short to me

It was alright. I didn’t dislike it, but I feel like love is a bit of an overdone theme in the theatrical shorts we’ve been seeing recently. They need to change things up a bit!

I mean Lava wasn’t exactly groundbreaking or anything (no pun intended), but I thought that it was adorable and touching.

Lava didn’t achieve anything spectacular with it’s short, but it did gain a fan in myself. This tale is perfectly suited to be a short, something that is easily digestible with emotional pay off at the end. Knowing that there are some discrepancies whether this is the first “musical’ Pixar has produced, I will say it’s “musical” aspect is very interesting. If I remember correctly (please comment if you know) I though it was said they would never “do” a musical (I believe it may have been my boy and head of Pixar Johnny L.). To that point isn’t Pixar’s Dia De Los Muertos themed movie supposedly musical based. Either way I loved the short and I’m excited about what it could mean for Pixar’s future in the medium.

In reply to Roy K.. "I lava you" being a pun of "I love you". Them both being volcanoes they played on that aspect to tell a love story.
