I felt the same thing. Joy did not keep her promise. But then again, my dad said said bing bong was too obese to go on the wagon, and was slowing joy down. Also, bing bong did his job, which was to be Riley's imaginary friend, and he did that successfully. Riley is to old for bing bong, and bing bong is now immature for Riley. So thinking of that, joy was a jerk, but had a point to her actions.

I love that Tripledent gum jingle! I was laughing so hard when it kept popping up throughout the movie. That was brilliant :)

I really enjoyed this movie. It is definitly up there as one of Pixar's best and is definitly their most creative movie ever. I thought it was great how they showed the value of different emotions, even the not so pleasent ones, and how they help us cope with different events in our lives and that it's okay to be sad sometimes. Speaking of which, did anyone catch on to the major forshadowing for this theme in the character of Joy herself? All of the other emotions have their own color (Anger is red, Sadness is blue, Disgust is green and Fear is purple) but Joy is the only emotion that isn't all one color. Instead of being all yellow and and giving off a yellow glow, she has blue hair and gives off a strong blue glow, forshadowing her third act realization. Now that is pretty ingenious Pixar storytellers. Check here for some more cool Easter Eggs http://whatculture.com/film/inside-out-22-easter-eggs-in-jokes-and-references-you-need-to-see.php/23
There were a few things that bugged me about the movie though: mostly Joy's promise to Bing Bong (I hate broken promises and I think it should have been kept somehow), I think they should have shown Riley settling into her life in San Francisco in other ways at the end of the movie in addition to the hockey game (maybe show that the moving van did arrive, and show her newly decorated room...something like that..for all we know that moving van could still be delayed!), and then finally the fact that the emotions are the ones controlling Riley. Everyone has control over their emotions at some point and I kind of don't think that anyone is controlled by one main emotion over the other. What about Logic (who I am told was at one point going to be a character in this film)?
But all that aside, I really did enjoy this movie. I laughed and I got teary eyed and was blown away by the color, animation, and creativity of this film (the Abstract Thought scene was the most creativly bizzare thing I have seen in an animated film - it was amazing!) If you haven't seen this movie yet, I highly recommend that you do. It is an amazing film and definitly one of Pixar's best. :)

Interesting observation. I don’t think Riley has a mental problem because we’ve seen that she’s generally a happy healthy person. But if a person was constantly unable to feel, was cut off from their emotions, and unable to function on a daily basis then it would be a cause for concern. I think this film was trying to say that Riley’s emotions and actions aren’t abnormal at all given that she's going through a stressful experience. The beauty of Pixar story-telling is that they don’t make the characters explicitly tell us the moral but rather, show us that story so that the audience can come to their own conclusions.

The risk is when people may turn to drugs, alcohol, or any escapism
to numb all of their feelings or block out anything that feels “bad”. In Riley’s case, escape by running away. But she doesn’t go through with it. Her emotion of sadness kicks back in, motivating her to return to her family. Because as much as she cherishes Minnesota memories, she cherishes her family more. The decision to make Riley 11 years old and on the cusp of adolescence is a wonderful opportunity to show her carefully taking a step towards maturity. Because as we progress we learn how to accept and control our feelings as well as channel them through outlets.(Riley has hokey. I have yoga and knitting ^^)

P.S. Gefilte fish and horseradish! And sushi for anyone who
dares to try it. But the very best is fresh hot chocolate or cinnamon rugelach from the oven. Mmmmm….
