In reply to <a href="https://www.rotoscopers.com/2015/06/05/should-the-simpsons-be-put-to-rest/#comment-17994">⌈Phusion⌉</a>.

because the tv episode titles are usually puns/plays on words that link to popular media for example: Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire, instead of chestnuts roasting on an open fire; or "Moaning lisa" instead of The Mona Lisa; "The Crepes of Wrath" as oppose to the Grapes of Wrath (Steinbeck). The simpsons (and many shows) like to play on titles of existing things, like Mapple instead of Apple, mypads, mypods, instead of iPads/ipods. So, I think yellow wedding is a clever name. It hints at a Game of Thrones theme but reminds us it is still in the Simpsons universe. (Plus there's copyright issues probably.) Using Game of Thrones in the Simpsons is a parody, hence a parody name is needed.

Even though The Simpsons is the longest running TV Sitcom in history, it's gonna have a few bad episodes. The thing is, even in the worst episodes, there's always some amount of brilliance in the writing (Unlike Family Guy, which the past two seasons were really crude, extremely offensive, and flat out unfunny).

While I feel it could be the beginning of the end with Harry Shearer no longer providing his voice to dozens of characters, if the writing is great, the jokes are funny, and the voice acting isn't too far off the original, people will keep the Simpsons going for many years to come. I mean, look at the Muppets. We thought they were over when we lost Jim Henson and Jerry Nelson, but they are back in the spotlight with two recent hit movies under their belt and an upcoming show!

Now if Warner Bros. could only fix Looney Tunes...

The Simpson's was the best TV show in the 90's and one of the best TV shows ever made. It's surprising the show has lasted as long as it has given it's ups and downs over the years, but the same could be said for SNL. I gave up on the Simpson's years ago, but I recently watched about 6 episodes of the current season to see how bad it is and found it to be surprisingly funny and fresh. I think they should keep going, even without Shearer.

I have been watching the show since S1E1 where they got Santa's Little Helper. Just a few years younger than Bart it made me laugh for decades. I even had the tape "The Simpsons Sing the Blues." The movie did nothing for me and I agree trying to keep up with McFarlen about ruined them. In my opinion his shows are crude and make no sense. I know it's hard to keep coming up with new material, but as we have grown so has the Simpsons, keeping up with their original target demographic and what we as 20 and 30 something's would be dealing with today. I too wish it would go on forever, but I wish more than anything it will end with them on top in television history.

Unfortunately it's now too late for the show to go out on a high note...it's a shame because I can honestly say the first ten seasons of The Simpsons are genius and endlessly rewatcheable. The real shame though is that it picked up all the usual habits of TV shows that have been on WAY too long. It's no longer possible to end the show with dignity like, say, Seinfeld. I don't get how 26 seasons of anything is even up for debate as to whether it has overstayed its welcome...just let it die guys. It's time.

Lol, this article makes me feel old, as I was three when the Simpsons began. However, I also had the experience of not being able to watch "The Simpsons" due to my mother believing the show to be too crude. That aside, I agree. I feel as though The Simpsons, McFarlane shows, and South Park are all running towards the trite, cornball plots that they (at least Simpsons and South Park) avoided in the past. Sadly, money talks, and artistic craft is a secondary or tertiary concern.

In Game Of Thrones, no one had red skin, it was named thusly for all the blood, so why yellow wedding?

Believe it or not, I kinda stopped getting interested in the Simpsons right when they were doing the new episodes (today) in high-definition. As in, the look of the series now looked like the look of their movie. And that was kind of a big letdown for me. I actually like TV shows to go fullscreen cause I think TV is trying to kill the movies by copying them in form.

I think it is important to give due credit to Mr Shearer, not many would walk away from $14 million. Perhaps it would be better to enlist him and the rest of the cast in trying to give us a fitting end
