Ratatouille. People always say that Pixar can hit well with both kids and adults, but most of the movies were always pretty staunchly in the kid's department (Which isn't an issue of course). Just in content, tone, and pacing this movie is vastly different, slower, a little more drawn out and grounded in the real world. I really consider it an adult movie that was animated.

The Incredibles started on that path by being a little Darker and Edgier (but still working very well; A lot of the times when that happens, a movie just ends up looking foolish). But Ratatouile was the first, and in my opinion, only, Pixar movie to be more adult than for kids. Or would 'mature' be a better term here? Things can be adult without involving gore or sexual content. There's a lot of intrigue that Remy really had no part of, but it still affects him anyway.

In Nemo, the fish don't have to worry about someone seeing them talk, and for the most part in Toy Story, while it is a concern, no one's really looking closely for a talking toy. But Remy is a rat who wants to cook high class food in an environment that isn't suited to him and would quickly take him out; That's a threat that always seemed far realer than the plots to other films.
