In reply to <a href="https://www.rotoscopers.com/2015/06/01/5-things-im-hoping-for-in-disneys-moana/#comment-17724">ChazM</a>.

Disney didn't remove romance alltogether thoug. Rapunzel still had a very importand romance going on. One that was done in a modern way and is to me my favorite disney romance so far. Rapunzel had her own dreams, she got things done herself. Flynn had his own character growth, and wasn't there just to save the princess. They saved eachother, and where on equel levels with eachother. Thats a good way to show a love story. Old disney romances either made the girl be rescued all the time, or didn't devolp the male character at all. (Like what can you tell me about Snow White's prince? From the movies, not from wiki or shows like once upon a time.) Romance isn't a bad thing. neither is a female character being rescued. What is a problem is having ONLY female characters needing rescue. Which Tangled avoided. Nor did tangle fall in the trap of having only the male character in need of saving as that is equally wrong. Both genders deserve to shine. Tangled did that. Then there is Frozen, who still had romance with Kristoff and Anna. It wasn't the main focus, but lovely none the less. Also Frozen's focus on the love between sisters (family) is importand to show as well. Disney didn't do that enough in the past, and are now doing family love more justice. (They do however have to stop killing parents off...like seriously). Big Hero 6 had no romance, nor did it need any. It was about friendship (Hiro and Baymax) getting over loss, and once more family (this time with brothers.). Disney didn't drop the formula. They just changed it. Love is still as big as it always was in these movies. The way it is presented is what has changed somewhat, and if you ask me, for the better. We see romantic love, but also more family love, more friendship love. I do hope they don't become romance phobic. As romance between a male and female is not sexist to a female character. It's fine for a female character to fall in love. As long as that is not the whole point of her character. Same is true for male characters also. (I'm still waiting for the first disney movie with a gay romance :) I don't think disney is gutsy enoug for that just yet though. So for now I'm just being happy with the changes they are making. Now what we need is more female centerd disney movies that are NOT about princesses. That would be great.)

I disagree. Rapunzel and Anna are one type of teenager, Pochahontas and Belle another type which are very very real. Teenagers are people, and people are different. Some are playfull, others are serious. In fact I was much more like Belle and Pocahonthas when I was 16 then Rapunzel or Anna. I love Rapunzel. I like Anna. So I have nothing against those types of portrayals of teens. I'm fine with it if Moana is also that kind of type. I'm just saying what your saying is wrong. There is no correct way to act as a 16 year old. You are who you are. And as one of those teens who was like Belle growing up I needed to point that out.

You mean like pretty much any disney villain? I hope not, That would be boring. I liked the plot twist villains we got in Frozen and Big hero 6 (well does big hero 6 really count though?) as it was something new and fresh for a disney animation movie. I liked Hans as a villain. He is possible the most realistic villain in all of disney animation. And it shows kids that people aren't always what they seem. Evil isn't always obvious. that being said, as both Frozen and Big hero 6 already toyed with this recently, I also wouldn't want another plot twist villain this soon again. Maybe a few movies in the future. Anyhow, what I would prefer for now, is something new again. Maybe no specifick villain at all. Just some wild adventures on the sea. Maybe some minor villains like a sea monster. I don't know. I just hope they do something creative. Not a plot twist, this time, as that has been done to recently, and not a typical in your face villain, as we had those plenty of times before. Either way I'm looking foreward to Moana. Everything so far looks great. I hope I can add her to my favorite disney lady list which for now is: Mulan Merida Esmeralda Belle and Rapunzel.

i actuly have to disagree and agree dinah jane is not an a list person witch your right about. i thought at first i didn't want her to be casted but i really took time and looked up dinah jane and her characteristics as well as interviews. and found out she's perfect for the part. she speaks the language, she can sing and she looks very similar to her. as well as the characteristics listed in the casting call were similar to hers.

totally agree that Glenn Slater's lyrics in Tangled were weaker than previous lyricists. Probably the reason that "I see the light" did not get the Oscar for best song. The melody was one of Menken's best ever in my opinion totally magical like A whole new world. It's one of my favourite Menken songs.

Yeah I totally agree. Alan Menken always scores his own films, not just composing the songs. And he's lately been announcing his future projects in interviews and he's never mentioned Moana. I'm also guessing Lopezes, since their songs were such a hit in Frozen that its a no-brainer to rehire them like Menken used to be rehired. Plus they don't score their films, only compose the songs.

Frozen didn't deal mostly in platonic love XD there are 2 songs dedicated to falling in love and being a couple. And a 3rd song that turns in to a hopeful love song a 3rd of the way through.

It may have 'sisters' plastered over all the Walmart merchandise but that film is just as much about boys/girls as it is about sisters, if not more so.

Brave was about a mother and daughter. Big hero 6 was about family. Wreck it Ralph was about living yourself. But Frozen was about Anna and the 2 boys she fell in love with. It also had a subplot about Elsa.
