Unlike Disney's feature films, the Mickey and Friends universe has always been flexible, versatile and a lose canon with multiple continuities (the theatrical cartoons, the comics, the TV shows, the theme parks, video games, etc.). And that includes having the characters in all sorts of different locations depending on the project (Toontown, Mouseton, Duckburg, Spoonerville, St. Canard, Hot Dog Hills, Hollywood, Disney Castle, suburban homes, apartments, trailers, foreign countries, different time periods, etc.).

I think this is a natural next step, and the racing aspect adds something fresh to it. I would be annoyed if this was the only Mickey Mouse endeavor in the pipeline, but with the new shorts also continuing, Disney is doing a good job at keeping their biggest character prominent and relevant across demographics, ensuring his long-term future longevity.

Don’t worry – I think most people forgot about the Lion Guard series because Disney isn’t sharing too much new info about it since that first announcement last summer. I’d rather see this than more new Princesses and Mickey and Co. in cars honestly.

In reply to Míriam. True, the Disney Channel has manage to make Mickey Mouse comical for the whole audience and Disney Junior is giving a good starting point for kids to know who Mickey Mouse is.

In reply to Katie. I think that's the point, though: they know it works, there's an audience for this. Plus, I think "recycling" Mickey is a very smart thing to do, so that he gets to accompain a whole new generation and stays a well-known character in everybody's fond memories (seriously, how many kids nowadays have no clue who Bugs Bunny is? In my opinion, they dropped the ball with the looney tunes franchise).

I have 1 concern: these Mickey and friends keep on changing Mickey and friends stories. Now their hometown is Hot Dog Hills? Not Miceton, or Toontown?

In reply to Baymax. Um what's wrong with Disney Junior? Its currently better than Disney Channel in every way. Sofia the First is great and respected the Disney Princesses. Miles from Tomorrowland respects Tomorrowland and teach about space. Jake and the Neverland isn't that bad as well. This will be another great addition.
