I’m glad to see a positive review on the BluRay/DVD, since I was debating buying it. Intrigued for the documentary especially, not only for the making-of but also the recent news about Japanese animation work conditions (http://www.cartoonbrew.com/artist-rights/japans-animation-industry-isnt-just-tough-its-illegally-harsh-110074.html). From recent interviews, though, it seems like everyone on Takahata’s team really loved working on Kaguya and put all their heart into it. So amazing!

Also, is there more info on the Announcement of the Completion of the Film segment? The last sentence starts with “It’s….”

It would’ve been so appropriate if this film had won the Academy Award. Then again, it was lucky to be nominated, as was Song of the Sea.

Still…it’s my favorite animated film of 2014 and my #5 favorite film of 2014 overall (just above A Most Violent Year and just under The Grand Budapest Hotel, Whiplash, Nightcrawler, and–my favorite–Birdman). Such a cinematic treat! ^_^

Spirited away made ghibli scary. Well I get nightmares from the pig scene all the time.
