In reply to Haley Gilbertson. But after The Blue Umbrella I think a romantic comedy is surprisingly in really good hands at Pixar... Don't judge it too harshly, at least not until there's a trailer or something, it's still so early in production.

She and Will McCormack also wrote and starred in a movie called Celeste & Jesse Forever, and that's what made Pixar decide that they would be perfect writers for this movie. She was also interviewed by Jimmy Fallon where she talks about being secretive about Toy Story 4 which you can find on YouTube.

Does anyone know if this writer is the same Rashida Jones from The Office and Parks and Recreation? I keep seeing this name come up and wonder if this is the same person or if this writer just happens to share the name. Anyone have any info on that?

One thing I feel I must point out (and it’s a common misconception) is that co-directors at Pixar are not directors in the traditional sense. At Pixar, the co-directors are not equals to the directors, but actually the right-hand man or second-in-command. As Andrew Stanton talked about in “To Infinity and Beyond”, that when he was co-directing A Bug’s Life, he basically got to check-out occasionally and didn’t have all of the duties of the director. They’re always in the know, but don’t really need to make final decisions. Only the DI-rector does. So with Toy Story 4, it’s still pretty much almost all John Lasseter’s vision. Josh Cooley will be contributing greatly to story collaboration and will probably be the most influential when giving notes and pointing out when something is not working well, because he know the story so well. It’s fully collaborative, but not actually a shared deal as far as director titles go. (And it does follow the third movie, with different themes. It’s a “4” movie).
