^I totally agree. The spirit of the “real” Disney will always be there in the animation (and live-action) divisions; in fact, the creative energy seems to be growing stronger in those areas. As for the parent company… hey, it’s a business. The Walt Disney Company is doing the same sorts of things every other business does. Mergers, buy-outs, and take-overs happen every day.

…And let’s not forget that Ted Turner, the man who founded TCM, was also quite the mogul himself; along with TCM, he also owned TNT, TBS, CNN, Cartoon Network, MGM Studios, and the Atlanta Braves, among other things. (He also created an animated series: ‘Captain Planet and the Planeteers.’)

That’s terribly melodramatic and all. You speak as though they’ve done something bad. People seem to like what they produce through their various divisions and units, otherwise they wouldn’t be successful and have such a powerful brand. The “real” Disney still exists as WDAS and the theme parks, even though the parent company has become a massive media conglomerate. Did an executive wearing mouse ears kick your dog or something?

Disney is not Uncle Walt and Mickey. It is a voracious, insatiable corporate monster that owns ABC, ESPN and, given time, it will own everything that Comcast doesnt. The fact that Disney has its own cartel of Networks doesn’t mean it will stop there. Not too long ago, there was a stockholder rebellion at Disney over what the company had become. Those people are all gone now, but Disney is even more ruthless, swallowing up everything in its path like that planet eating thing on Star Trek.
