I know I said this on my Twitter page, but I have to say it again. The last time Pixar made a sequel drastically different from the original movie, we got Cars 2. Not even mentioning the fact that JL directed that movie, too.

That said, I am remarkably concerned for this film. I love the Toy Story series so much that I don’t want its reputation being botched by another movie, regardless of whether it’s a spin-off film or not.

I think if they are going to go in a different direction, let’s say use the same world and lore but focus on different toys and characters that weren’t center stage in any of the first three films, it would be wise to probably rename this new franchise because “Toy Story” (1-3) are associated with Andy, Woody and Buzz.

If they plan to just have them take supporting roles instead, then maybe the new movies should just become a series of shorts or perhaps take on a different title (i.e. “Toy Stories”) much like how they did with the Jurassic park movies: different titles each time and each new movie is not a direct sequel to the last.

Not super excited about the film. I’m ok with a breakaway 4th movie al Lin as it’s not all about Barbie and Karen. That would get annoying really fast. I’m hoping for new more modern toys. It’s always fun how they give toys character. I’m really just gonna sit back and see where this goes.

I’m more ok with this than I was before because they’ve announced that the new film will not center on the relationship between the children and the toys. The trilogy perfectly wrapped up that storyline, and I really don’t think there’s anything else they could have done with it. I wonder if the new film will be about Woody trying to move on from Bo?

Another reason this gets me excited is because it may open up the door for a genuine Buzz Lightyear film from Pixar. Like a legitimate space action movie with Buzz Lightyear and Zurg as people, not toys. How cool would that be??!!

I’m actually okay with this being a stand-alone film that doesn’t continue the trilogy’s story. Toy Story 3 concluded the trilogy on such a wonderful note and I wouldn’t want that to be tarnished.
