Just chill out, dude. People are allowed their own opinions, you know. Maybe you should take your own advice for a change?

I worry about that too. Both of those points.

Also, I really adore Bluth's version of Mrs. Frisby/Brisby to the point of calling her one of the best animated mothers ever. He really did make it about her character growth and we truly see how far she was willing to go for the sake of others. In a way, her tale is just as important as the Rats, since they both struggle against Man to survive against Nature, and both the book and Bluth's adaptation pull that off for me (in my opinion).

I do wish the original movie gave us more background and development about Jonathan and the Rats, like the book did, but the lack of info makes the Rats of NIMH and Jonathan himself a more mysterious entity. Based on the summary, I really don't want to see these scientifically-altered rodents get a comical revamp just because it worked for other franchises.

I worry though that a new movie will overshadow the original film as Don Bluth is shafted enough as it is and I feel like he never really got the due that he deserves.

I quite like the mysticism aspects of the Don Bluth film if you look at it as a commentary on the conflict between spirituality and science. The Nostalgia Critic has a great review of The Secret of NIMH where he makes a great thought provoking defense of the added magical elements of the movie.

Short answer: No.

Long answer: Uh, I'm not sure if I want to see it happen... though it seems like it will anyway. And I'm willing to give it a watch.

Granted, a remake could lead to a more faithful adaptation of the book and really be awesome... but it could also fail horribly. I think that it'd be compared to the original Don Bluth classic rather than the book, as well as change many things that made the 1980s film so great as a realistic-fantasy tale. The book is really good for a simple story that turns surprisingly complex, and if anything, the remake would get new readers into the "Rats of NIMH" series (and maybe make a sequel that actually DOES follow the books, instead of that abomination known as "Timmy to the Rescue". *shudder*).

Plus, I wonder if the "Frisby" name will stay this time?

Shut up and enjoy the movie. Gosh. Do you like little mermaid? Would you like her to die? No! It's fine the way it is. Listen to my advice and rewatch the movie

That's true. I should watch it again, to see if I like it better now that I'm not as attached to the books as I was when I was a kid. I still wish it was straight sci-fi like the book, but I don't think I'll care quite as much as when I was a kid.
