Wow, glad to hear it from an animator firsthand, hope things will work out for you and your colleagues. I have to confess I didn't have the interest to watch Peabody, problem is DreamWorks released too many movies(relatively speaking of course) in a short span and the marketing isn't properly done. Anyway wish you all the best.

I'm sorry, but what "overtly pop culture reference" did you find in the trailer?

I'm so glad you both liked it-we certainly loved working on it, and approached it with sincerity. I think the big problem was that either no one went to see it, not knowing what the heck it was, or dismissed it outright based on an assumption that it must be a cheap version of a TV show.

Sorry DreamWorks but the trailer for 'Home' didn't sell, I was especially turn off by the overtly pop culture reference and rehash jokes, I have a sinking feeling 'Home' is going to be a disaster.

Oh boy. I knew this was going to happen. Dreamworks has been releasing to many films and not properly marketing them. I think there is a chance that Dreamworks can bounce back but they're going to have to work really hard at this. That's why I'm going to see Home and buy as much merch as I can related to it.

I'm not sure about you guys, I did agree that I wasn't as interested in Home from the first short which was pretty annoying. However, I have read the book it's based off of "The True Meaning of Smekday" by Adam rex, and let me tell you the book was surprisingly fun, hilarious, and heartwarming.
As for what I see in these trailers, it could go 50/50, as I do see some elemnts that stay true to the book which I'm happy for, but I'm nervous for some of the more modern humor I have seen that's unlike the self aware wit and charm of the book, so it's gonna either be a pleasant surprise or a bog dissapointment, but I will see it either way to support Dreamworks, a studio that was a part of my childhood just as much as Disney.
And yes, I highly reccomend this book! It should hopefully at least see the possibility on how it could work out as a great film. Either way, here's hoping.

Thats really sad to see that an studio who could be the 1940s Warner Bros of the 2000s have been ruined by awful executive decisions.

Maybe Dreamworks as a filmmaker studio can be saved by structuring the mangentent similar how Lasseter changed WDAS around 2006. DW could do the creative decision that each upcoming film is entirely different and unique from eachother. Its like when you are buying a Kinderegg with a hidden toy inside. You cannot predicte which type of ''toy'' are going to get expect that the quality will be as good as KFP and HTTYD.

DW could market this kind of strategy to show that they are ''candybox-filmmakers'' who can easily surprise us. Pixar are great, but their way to make sure their films are ''Pixar-movies'' does make it harder for them to surprise us in a good way. Thats because we can more easily predicte what their movies are going to be now.
