I think that one of the main reasons why the whole world was “Frozen” in 2013 is because the movie’s success was so unexpected (like Titanic’s one in 1997) and that not only made several people love the movie instantly and embrace it but also made some hate it for it’s success (Every succesful film has haters eg Titanic, Avatar and even The Lion King speaking of animated movies)! Personally, I think Frozen is perhaps the best Disney Animated Film of All Time! The songs, the score, the beautiful animation, dialogues (& unforgettable quotes) and the lovable characters along with the great messages a Disney film should provide make this movie a great experience. But what makes Frozen shine between other animated (mostly Disney) films is it’s originality not in terms of plotline (since it is Inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s “The Snow Queen”) but for how it transfered this classic fairy tale and brought it to life using both classic & modern elements to make this movie appealing but also society problems that people should be aware of and putting an end to Disney’s known formula of a disney princess movie (girl falls for a prince and they get married in 1 hour). Frozen is my favoutire animated film because it is a combination of various genres and even if it includes a princess and a Queen (!) it is very different from other disney princess films. It may include some plot mistakes, 1-2 songs could have been missed and the ending (after *SPOILER* Anna is alive again) may be too much Disney but overall it is a great film which will stay in the history of animated movies as the classic phenomenon which froze everything in 2013. Stop the hate!

Only fitting that you should mention The Catcher in the Rye in your article, Jed. Both stories about devoted, chirpy little sisters putting themselves on the line for their conflicted and misunderstood elder siblings who are pushing them away so as to not hurt them. And in the end, the little sisters save their mentally torn older sibs by helping them discover their own selves and the true beauty of life. 🙂

Thanks for this great write-up. It’s really touching how many people find this movie to be healing in the best way possible.

What else can I say about Frozen, the music, characters, story I love it all! But my friends are ruining it by how they keep showing it up and just won’t shut up!! It just sucks how I can’t call it a favorite because of that
But I can totally see why everyone goes crazy for Frozen

Yes it is a good movie but I’m tired of people saying it’s overrated and really there have been Disney movies before Frozen that people couldn’t get out of their heads but this one felt different like it was a real thing in our world more than a movie and for people like me who have a sister would relate to it more than other people without a sister would or like BH6 with people who don’t have or have brother but to me this is one of those movies that stay with you and can never let it go. (no pun intended)

Your reflection about art was really insightful. I agree with you that the best part of this new Disney Renaissance is the deepness of plots and characters. Big Hero 6, Wreck it Ralph, Tangled, the list goes on. They were all sooo touching, and I’m sure each helped different people in different ways. 🙂
