Definitely what I believe the world needs now more than ever. In the face of controversial violence, racism and hate, Cinderella and her fellow rags to riches heroines/heroes are needed to cheer up those who seek love and tolerance. Heroines or heroes such as Annie, Tracy in Hairspray, Matilda, Charlie in the Chocolate Factory, Harry Potter (sortof) and fellow Disney princess Snow White.

Cinderella is one of few stories I would see another recreation of for as long as I'm alive! Like most people, my first version was Walt Disney's masterpiece. It's a beautiful story of kindness over abuse, love over jealousy and rightfully rich over cruelty. Cinderella is my favorite Disney princess tied with Snow White and now Moana! The live action remake despite certain changes lived up to the animated original's magic. Another great interpretation would be the TV musical (happy 60th anniversary) by Rogers and Hammerstein. I agree as long as there is despair in the world, there always be that certain Ella to look up to for hope.

Great text and analysis. I completely agree with everything you said, and thank you for phrasing my thoughts the way you did. I, too, always saw the story of Cinderella as a story of hope. Hope that, even in the direst of circumstances, things can get better. And that you should strive to be a good person no matter how harsh life gets, because there's always a chance that you will be rewarded for your good deeds. And that sometimes being kind and compassionate is the smartest thing to do. At least that's how I see it.

Even though Anna is and will always be my favorite princess, I really do like Cinderella. I actually had this set of old books full of stories and stuff when I was younger and I remember them having both the Rhodopis and Ye Xian stories. I always thought all the different variants of the story were fascinating. I guess that just goes to show that some stories have universal appeal.

Wow this was a really good piece. I love Cinderella and am definitely looking forward to the live action version. I always thought she is a mixture of a stoic, Sisyphus and St.Francis (talking to animals and all).

A very good analysis. I always liked Cinderella while growing up and looking back on it I've noticed that she had a bit of a interesting personality namely with having some snark to her words. Seriously watch it again while you're older and notice the slight sarcasm in a few scenes like the clock and the 'music lesson.' XD

Well said and well researched!

Although Cinderella is not my favorite of the Disney Princess canon, I do admire her positive qualities of being kind, good and always finding some sort of joy despite having been forced to the point of being a servant girl in rags. She is a symbol of hope that all girls (and boys too) can easily look up to for strength in times of despair and hardship. She works hard to eventually receive the long-awaited reward that she truly deserves, even if others try to take it away from her. I think I may have to move Cindy up on my Favorite Disney Princess list now because of all these good things I've said!

As for the movie, I am definitely more excited to see how this new live-action version will be compared to the animated classic... oh, and I do hope to see Frozen Fever (probably like 50% of the audiences will be)!

She's my absolute fave of the official Disney Princesses.

And yeah, the hate of her is just annoying! Another reason why she doesn't leave also in my opinion, is that she doesn't hate her stepmothers/stepsisters and sees them as family. And many cultures don't see leaving family as a good thing ever!

I love her selflessness, love, kindness, big-heartedness, gratitude, and patience!

I love Cinderella! She wasn't on Mulan's level of bravery, but she was strong in her own way. She worked as a slave for her stepfamily and was still kind enough, had hope, and at least did something to earn her happily ever after (unlike Aurora and Ariel, for example).
