than the style of the show itself, it unfortunately didn't show in the initial comments.

I feel thats where you go wrong. I know a bunch of anime fans and a fan of anime myself. THe deviant art cliche has been overdone for a long time, and even my art teachers would cringe at it.

I shared it on facebook and all did not like it.

The bare bones problem of this is its breaking symbolism of why eyes look like that in anime. There isn't any balance in shapes. The animation is creating anti patterns that he doesn't understand why artist of the anime series create big eyes in the first place:

To answer your question, no, I don't expect anyone to get behind "Dueling Kapowskis" or any other animation they don't like. But I have a right to encourage our readers to respect Leonard, and all other indy/amateur animators. I'm sorry you misunderstood the purpose of the article.

And it wouldn't be very logical to dare all the indy animators out there to go try and produce their own animated series when they're already producing their own animated series. The comment wasn't directed at them and I think that distinction is pretty obvious. There are so many indy animators on YouTube, Vimeo, etc. who have incredible talent. I'm inspired by them and I hope they get to where they want to go.

Hey, I'm surprised DWTV went with "Kapowskis" too. If there were so many people out there who were more outraged at DreamWorks' decision than the style of the show itself, it unfortunately didn't show in the initial comments.

And you're totally right; there are so many amateur/indy animators who struggle to produce their own animations, and they have more right to criticize this show than anyone else I suppose. However, I still think Leonard's story is interesting and should be taken as encouragement for other indy/freelance animators. The ones that "could probably do that a whole lot better", if they have the desire and drive, will hopefully rise far above.

"Go try and produce your own animation series"? It isn't that he's trying and creating something that's not very appealing to a massive audience that upsets people. It's that out of everyone who has tried to produce their own animation series who put in more work to sharpen their skills, and this was who Dreamworks TV went with. I don't even care about him. Know your audience. You're talking to a place full of people doing just that and could probably do that a whole lot better.

"Go try and produce your own animation series." This is the worst way you could've ended that comment. So what, are we supposed to bow down and spoon-feed every 'One-man' production even though it's poorly made? There's absolutely no artistic benefit or growth to that at all. That's an incredibly big back-handed comment to everyone that independently produce their own short films and series and actually put effort and thought into it.

Note from the author: Though I don’t think I fit into the
target audience for “Dueling Kapowskis”, I respect and support Stephen for what
he’s done here. When we posted the pilot episode I saw a lot of
singing-snowman-obsessed animation fans dismissing it because of its style.
While I respect their tastes and preferences, I hope this interview shines some
light on the creative motivations of the show while helping folks to not take
this series too seriously.

I also want to point out that “Kapowskis” is basically a
one-man production and you’ve got to at least give Stephen credit for putting
his work out there, getting it picked up by DreamWorks TV, and working hard on,
as he called it, the best job he’s had in his life (how many of us can say the
same?). I think it’s fascinating that a YouTube animator can accomplish all
that just because he or she has the desire. Still think the show is crap? Go
try and produce your own animation series.
