Gravity Falls – yay
Dragons – not so much yay

I feel like I’m the only person who think that HTTYD 2 deserves all this recognition. Whilst I really liked the movie it just wasn’t as original or brilliant or well-executed as the Lego Movie or even Big Hero 6. Plus the marketing campaign ruined the reveal of Hiccups mother which made the first act less poignant.

In reply to aquapyro. Sometimes it's better for a film to start with an already established cast of characters. More often than not, origin stories are just used as the foundation for the sequel.

While I loved Dragons 2, I really have a strong hatred of sequels winning awards circuits. To me a sequel has to be better than the original in everything to win any awards and only 4 films IMO really deserve that title: Return of the King, Toy Story 3, Godfather part 2 and the Dark Knight. Let alone a sequel already has an established world, while everyone else has to create something new.
