Glad Lego won best animated film, I enjoyed Big Hero 6 (and I'm normally loyal to Disney) but felt Lego gave more to a wider audience, great animation, funny jokes and characters too! (Hopefully Big Hero 6 will win the Oscar since Lego wasn't even nominated!)
As for the animated short I was disappointed that My Dad by Marcus Armitage didn't win! I work with his dad (the animation isn't based on him) and have been told all the stories about how Marcus made the film and the promotion side of things too!

I'm actually not very surprised (a little, but not a lot) at either exclusion. There are only ever three nominees for the BAFTA award, and not to stereotype but it is not difficult to believe that the British would find The Boxtrolls, with its setting and style of humor, appealing. One of the other major releases would have had to be excluded in order to include HTTYD 2--the voters simply picked the two out of the three obvious candidates that they happened to like better.

As for The Lego Movie not being nominated for the Oscar, although there are five nominees this year, there are a lot of strong contenders and I can totally see how these voters would not go for the type of humor that this movie has, for one thing, and it is possible that they were influenced by other factors such as the commercial aspect and maybe the live action content. The things that make its exclusion even remotely surprising, for me, are that it grossed the most at the box office domestically (Oscar voters don't normally put much thought into their votes, and often go with what is most popular) and that it got the best critical reception overall (they often, albeit hardly always, go in this direction).

So Boxtrolls made the cut but Httyd 2 didn't, that's almost as stupid as Lego Movie not getting nominated. Boxtrolls is mediocre, at best.
