Not enough live action to really be a factor. I think the snub is due to either:

Bias against Lord and Miller being primarily Live-action directors experimenting in animation.
Or
Animation branch doesn’t consider Lego toys as true, original animation for some reason. They have a definite lack of respect for rotoscoping and motion-capture. Maybe the is something similar?

Rooting for BH6 and HTTYD2! Still super torn between those two, haha. I didn’t get a chance to see any of the others but I’ll probably check them out at some point.
It’s sad Book of Life got snubbed, though! I recently saw it and LOVED it.

I’m kind of divided. On one hand I’m a HUGE Lego fanatic so of course I loved the movie and all the good things it had from a movie making perspective made me love it more. On another hand I still remember last year’s rumor that some people don’t even watch all the movies and I’m afraid Disney or Dreamoworks might win “by default.” And on ANOTHER hand there seems to be a lot of representation this year so I could still be surprised.

Ok Lego Movie not being nominated was a very huge snub, but hey what can we do about it? I am just happy Princess Kaguya is recognized cuz I need to see it still! and I hope HTTYD 2 has another win!!

It finally hit me in the last hour or so that it isn’t the LEGO Movie I’m upset about.

In the last 10 years there have been six occasions on which I felt that the winning film cheated a much better film out of some much-deserved recognition (IF that better film even made the list). So my problem shouldn’t be with the fact that my favorite animated film of the year didn’t make the list at all, it should be that the academy rarely gets it right to begin with. The Oscars aren’t about which film/actor/song/designer/etc. is ACTUALLY the best, it’s about which one threw the most money into lobbying for an award.

In the end, the fine people behind The LEGO Movie created a classic and profited like crazy off of it. The widespread negative reaction to the snub shows that it is a well loved film, but if Phil Lord is willing to take it in stride, then so am I.

There’s a solution though, and it allows me to react with spite and everything. I’ll simply watch The LEGO Movie instead of the Oscars this year.

I have to reiterate the disappointment over no nomination for The LEGO Movie for best animated film, big let down… BUT it’s lack of nomination doesn’t change the fact that it’s still AWESOME! So with that letdown aside, amazing selection of movies! All of them are pretty blooming superb in their own ways!

I’m not a Lego Movie fan. I’m not even a Big Hero 6 nor Dragon 2 fan. So I looked at the nominations in a non-biased way.
