He does have a point though, many of the ‘science’ in Batman, Spiderman, IronMan are just science fiction(Tony Stark invented a new element…yeah right). The science that was displayed in BH6 are very much grounded on actual technologies that, granted, are still very much in its infancy. For example, Baymax was based on a ‘soft robot’ prototype under development in Carnegie- Melon, swarm robot exists in laboratory…even the ping-pong playing robots in the SFIT fair exists.

What kind of hit? Frozen’s $250M or Incredibles’ $50M?
This is Japan we’re talking about and the movies that became famous in there were not always the same as the other Asian countries. Other Asian countries loved HTTYD and Despicable Me series, but in Japan, not quite much because they dig on to Pixar more. So we couldn’t say for sure.

And the reasoning that they have Japanese main characters in it, won’t do the trick either because remember that Godzilla 2014 didn’t even made that impressive amount there.
If I’m being optimistic, it would be around $100M+ which is good and quite on par with Pixar’s numbers. But if realistically speaking (without the fandom’s glitter on my eye), it would be $70M+ (Frozen’s success would affect somehow). Though I like to be proven otherwise, but I’m not betting on it.
But on the bright side, I have a feeling China would definitely buy this movie!

I’m a Fred Meyer employee, and every worknight I’ve been walking past the Frozen merch bonanza shown below right smack dab in the front of the store. The most I’ve seen of BH6 merch is some trading cards they have behind the customer service desk; the toy section doesn’t seem to have a BH6 display or anything, and even Guardians of the Galaxy had one of those back in August – not totally surprising, since I don’t remember ever seeing any Wreck-It Ralph merchandise even when that film came out, not even in the toy department.

how will it not be a hit in Japan? Big Hero 6 is already very popular in Asian countries, and added to the fact that the film has Japanese flavor and Japanese characters, it WILL be a hit.

If you actually stayed till the end, you could see Fred’s dad, AKA Stan Lee, is totally a Batman-style superhero in this movie. Also, it seems as if you’re projecting some SJW issues on to the comment you replied to. Notice how JK Riki didn’t mention anything about race or diversity in his post. Also, the science in BH6 is just as made up, convoluted, and non-reflective of real life engineering and science too. Not using the metric system, the complete lack of safety other than ‘tape’, vague science babble that only lasted for the introduction? Try to read what you’re replying to next time.

On a completely side note, yesterday I dashed through the toy section at a local retailer magazine out of curiosity, and didn’t see one single Baymax or Hiro doll (should I say ‘action figure’? Hahaha). Maybe (probably) they were there, but not in evidence (as, say, Frozen was). I’m not sure how bad kids will want those toys, but I’m guessing a lot. Did Disney just slipped on that underproducing toys for a popular franchise again this year? I’m curious to see how that’ll turn out…
