I wouldn't say that you're over analyzing, though I don't think this was Disney's intention. The way I always tend to look at art, specifically film, is that the creators and creatives involved put out certain themes and ideas that they hope the audience will take in. However, humans being human, we as an audience don't always get everything the creators were attempting to illustrate, and what's even crazier is sometimes we see more than they saw themselves.

So, while I do think you hit the irony of the film on the nose, I don't think that was Disney's intention, to tell a story about a girl with body/image problems who gets help from someone who loves her body, only to change completely for the man she loves and the woman who changes is supposed to be our heroine. This is an interpretation at the most basic level of the story that is fueled by our more modern feminist lens.

All hail Queen Ursula! This article pretty much sums up why I love her! Plus the fact that she actually has useful henchmen, something not even Maleficent has! I also love how they designed her as a cecaelia instead of another mermaid.

This article got me thinking, Ariel (Whom little girls are supposed to look up to) doesn't really like her body all that much (and she's considered the ideal beauty); She'd rather give it away to fit in with another world (the human world) while Ursula (Whom we're supposed to be repulsed by) seems perfectly confident with her appearance (what many would consider ugly). Is Disney trying to teach young girls not to love themselves since a young age!?.... Probably not. I need to stop over-analyzing stuff and get some sleep.
