I don't know if this really counts, but I once read a book series based on fairy tales and you could tell that they inspired by the Disney Versions (Like in the Sleeping Beauty one the prince character is described almost exactly like Phillip and the Sleeping Beauty is like Aurora with King Stephen's hair color) and in the one based on Cinderella basically the stepmother was born a poor woman but she always wanted to be a noble, so she married a baron but she wanted to be even higher so she married Cinderella's father and when he died she decided she wanted to have an even higher status so she planned to marry one of her daughters off to the prince character. Basically she wanted to build up her power more and more. I think that makes for a pretty interesting backstory if somebody wants any ideas for a fan fic....

I wish people talked about Lady Tremaine more! She is really mysterious and you really want to know more about how she became how she became. Like this if you believe some sort of fan fic on Lady Tremaine's back story would be awesome to hear!

Lady Tremaine lost a lot of her umph for me with the sequels. She went from being a cool, calculating villain to a petty narcissist-by-proxy. Which can also be scary, but not in the same way. She is the poster child for the fact that not all abuse is physical. It can be emotional and psychological, too, and that you don't have to hit someone in order to hurt them.

In a lot of ways, she's more terrifying than Maleficent or the Evil Queen because she's REAL in a way a lot of other Disney Villainesses are not. She can't rely on magic to torment her victim. Instead she uses her wits and cunning to torture Cinderella without ever really lifting a finger. She even insites her daughters into destroying the gown the mice made for her. All with a cutting remark.

That is what is so terrifying about her.
